Competitions

 The International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA) is a biannual program organised by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia together with its partner institutions since 2001. This year, PECIPTA was hosted by University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Batu Pahat, Johor from 22 to 23 Sept 2019. The aim of this event was to provide a platform for researchers from institutions of higher learning to showcase their innovative research products and services to the public. More than 400 innovative products and research projects from private and public institutions of higher learning, industry and private sector participated in the two-day event. Dr. Golnoosh Manteghi represented IUKL in PECIPTA 2019 with her project “Potential Optimum Model of Waterbody on Urban Streets in Melaka City”. She bagged a Silver Medal in the competition. Her research project was funded by the Ministry of Education.

 Infrastructure University Innovation and Invention Competition (IUIIC) is an annual event that showcases innovations and inventions from IUKL’s academic community. This is a platform where participating teams compete for recognition and accolades for the best innovations or inventions in the form of developed products, services or technologies. As part of the continuing efforts to inculcate the culture of research and innovation among our researchers and students, the 7th IUIIC was held in parallel to the “Patriotic Song Contest” as one of the activities of the prestigious event, NYALA 2019 at the same venue and time on 01 August 2019 (Thursday) at Multipurpose Hall, IUKL. The theme for this year’s competition was “Ensuring Sustainability For Tomorrow”. It is our great honour to have both Prof. Dr. Ideris Zakaria (Vice-Chancellor) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kong Wei (Deputy Vice-Chancellor) to launch the opening ceremony for both events at the same time. A a total of 16 IUKL teams exhibitied their products and competed in the competition.  The fifth annual instalment of “IUKL Innovation & Invention Competition” (IUIIC) was held on 7th December, 2016 and was officiated by Associate Prof. Dr. Christiantine Della, IUKL’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor. It was also the first major event to be held at the all new IUKL academic block 11. The IUIIC remains a popular platform for IUKL’s students and academics alike to showcase their wonderful designs, inventions and innovations. More importantly, it is the ultimate stage that displays innovations conceptualized from the university’s six faculties. IUIIC 2016 saw a wide-array of impressive entries ranging from pathogen diagnostics, environmental solutions, ICT and robotics. Based on the theme “Innovate Beyond Tomorrow”, the competition saw an important shift whereby entrants were bolder in their innovations which found solutions that may solve important real-world problems. A total of 24 teams participated in IUIIC 2016. The event saw two teams winning Gold, whereas six and ten teams won silver and bronze medals respectively. The Two Gold medalist at IUIIC 2016 went on further to win the Best Commercial Innovation award and the Most Promising Invention awards respectively. Kudos to all IUIIC 2016 winning teams.  The annual “IUKL Innovation & Invention Competition” (IUIIC) was held at the all new IUKL Academic Block 11 on 20 December, 2017. The event was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of IUKL, Prof. Dr. Roslan Zainal Abidin. IUIIC remains a very popular platform for IUKL students and academics to showcase their inventions and innovations and 2017 was no exception as participating teams eagerly showcased their prototypes and innovations to a packed crowd. The event was also very meaningful as it affirmed IUKL’s commitment towards solving real-world problems through solutions that are sustainable, and environmentally friendly. This year’s theme, “Innovating for Sustainability” was all about innovations that can improve business processes, increase efficiencies, reduce waste and deliver better cost savings. IUIIC 2017 also saw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research collaboration and commercialisation between IUKL and BioGenes Technologies Sdn. Bhd. IUIIC 2017 also saw the introduction of a new parallel pitching session in the competition format whereby each participating team was invited to present their ideas or product to a panel of invited industry experts. Points scored would then contribute to the overall marks of each team’s product /innovation entry. A total of 38 teams participated in IUIIC 2017.  The IUKL Innovation and Invention Competition 2013 (IUIIC 2013) was held on 11 September 2013. This event witnessed 74 teams consisting of IUKL staff and students and external participants from prominent universities, colleges, polytechnics, MRSMs, Science Secondary Schools, and National Secondary schools showcasing their products.  The 4th Infrastructure University Innovation & Invention Competition (IUIIC 2015) was held on 09 September 2015, Wednesday at Multipurpose Hall, IUKL. The event was officiated by YBhg Dato’ Sri Ir. Chong Ket Pen, Executive Vice Chairman / Group Managing Director of Protasco Berhad who hoped to witness a remarkable growth of research and innovation from various academic institutions all over Malaysia that not only benefit the society and improve the quality of life but also enhance the socio economic well-being of the nation. There were a total of 61 teams who have exhibited their products and competed in the competition. 41 products were from the Institution of Higher Learning category and 20 from Young Inventors category.  The IUKL Innovation and Invention Competition 2012 (IUIIC 2012) was held on 26 September 2012. A total of 42 teams competed, comprising teams from IUKL and external participants from prominent and established universities. The gold medal winners were SITI – MyPrinters and SETI – i-Garden.
